Recovering

Hey all, just letting you know I will be back up and blogging more routinely soon – just still recovering from exams and tiredness!

I will post saying what's coming up soon though.

1. Friends
2. Boundaries
3. Other Stuff….

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” – Luke 12:15

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called Present.

Dunno

Well its now time for my daily blog… however i have yet to think of what to blog about.. I have been so busy studying all day and for the past week.. I am over thinking hahah…

Wait I've got something:

My Children Will Do it Differently

Growing up in the age of technology with the Web almost celebrating birthdays with me I have grown with technology the last 18 years of as much as it has with me. If I look back 12 or so years ago, I remember playing on our Windows 98 System thinking we ruled the world… the internet was run by dial up then WOW…

Now.. today we have iPods the size of matchboxes with touchscreens, we have glasses less 3D televisions being released as we speak and in the future the concept of holographic storage.

All I can say is.. what will my children or the people in the next 20 years be experiencing, growing up with? What we called a CD (Compact Disc) or DVD could be anything.. many think it will be something like a small SD Card… but really we cant comprehend where our technology will go.

The funny thing is (sorry parents) my parents, dad more so… struggle with todays technology and are always reminding me what they had in their day… For me will it come to saying to my child, “son in my day we iPhone’s and iPads” and be given a bunch greezies or blare looks in embarrassment, that we would even mention them…

So tonight's question is:

What do you think will be around in the next 15 years?
<<Comment your thoughts>>

Todays technology is already old tomorrowChris Furlong

VERSE: – Is technology trouble?

"So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. – Matthew 6:34

Have a look at these.. they will defiantly widen your mind….

Pyramid to Perfection

Hey fellow blogtopians, tonight I probs wont blog as much as I am so tried but it better then nothing!

Ok so I mentioned I would write about the Pyramid to Perfection – which is the model I use to explain to my Drum Students how to succeed in learning their task at hand and perfecting it. So here is the model itself. *Remember this is usually for drums but can be rehashed for whatever!  - this is a basic version

image

Basics: So in this level its where we must learn whatever our task is. We must comprehend what is being asked, or how to apply it. So say we were given a Math Equation to do. First we must fully understand the concept behind it, what it being asked and a background knowledge of the equation.

Learn: Once you have a full understanding of the task (equation), we then need to learn it. For drummers, this means to memorize the beat which is to be learnt. So we need to be able to do the equation (formula), beat or whatever without looking at it.

Emphasise: Now we are ready to take it up a notch! For drummers this would imply adding speed to the beat, revamping it with style and technique and customizing for your own. In terms of the example (equation) this would imply we use it to a set of given questions. So its where we explore it further.

Perfection: After learning the basics, memorizing the task and then emphasising it to the next level by now you should have it imbedded into your mind and have a 100% understanding of how to apply it or play it. Now this wont mean 100% perfect but it will be very solid in terms of correct.

So there you go that's the Pyramid to Success model (brief version).

Don't forget if you have suggestions or want something to blogged about please feel free to email or comment for one.

Perfection may be impossible but we can perfect our best!Chris Furlong

An ironic change….

Before I start this blog, I must say when blogging.. one of my major influences is Music… not so much the lyrics always but more so the way in which it illuminates thoughts and ideas through the simplicity of music (sounds and rhythms).

Irony can be viewed in many ways but most commonly verbally. Someone will state one thing yet mean another. (For those that don't know EG: as soft as concrete – this implies irony as how can concrete be soft?) So what I really want to talk about is how ironic it is that people change…

I’ve known many people over the years, some more then others and one thing which has always intrigued me is their stubbornness to declare they wont change or nothing could change them (who they are, what they do, or what they keep important in their life).

The ironic thing is we all change. Change is part of who we are and what we will become. I’ve changed… from last year, from 5 years and from since i was born. Not just meaning physically or dramatically – i have always been a Christian, I'm known as a “goody tissue” but none of them have changed. What has changed is my view on life, my appreciation of my elders and my maturity in having the common sense to understand the important things in life.

So in terms of my fascination of others is how people go about living their lives – in the mindset nothing will change – they wont change.. they fact is yes they will change.. but how that change will happen and evolve is another question. That's then their choice in what they will mould into…

The sad thing is.. its usually the really good ones which chose to let change take them to the deepest and darkest places…

I’ve seen it happen, I have lost friends over it – that changed me.. but I controlled the change… I allowed it to build me (with the help of The Lord of course).

What I am trying to get at is, we all have things in our life which will prompt change.. some are bigger then others… but how will you control the change?
Will you let it build you and grow you… or will fall into the easy path which shall surely become a burden in your life…

So the ironic thing is: (QUOTE)

The more we deny change, the reality is, change is here to stay.”Chris Furlong

Persistence = Patience and Progress

WOW what a day… 12 hours of study.. it takes so much out of you.. even though your just sitting there for hours long.. writing, reading and formulating that perfect response… whilst trying to memorize it all at once.

So as i mentioned the other night will be blogging about Persistence

Persistence:

Well I figured I would touch on how Persistence = Patience and Progress…
If you want to set out to do something the first thing you should do is speak it out. Acknowledge to yourself what you want to achieve and when by! By doing this you have set your mind into a time frame and mindset of what needs to be done. This will further help you prioritise.

So now that your fixed on what you need to get done.. the next bit is staying at it (Persistence) and the only way to do this is to have Patience! Look at it in the long run.. the end result..  what will be achieved once you are done… and reward yourself when you do!

The work isn't just going to write itself or become randomly completed… it needs to be done by you patiently. So get to it!

Once your chugging away, without your Facebook on refresh every 5 minutes or your phone beeping at you for a new SMS, you should be making progress. If you set break times, (whatever intervals you chose) and stick to them by working until the time… you will be progressive each time.

BAM! You have now patiently persisted in becoming progressive in your set task! Give yourself a pat on the back and now start the next!!!!

Rather Interesting…

Well for the last week as you would know i haven't been blogging but i had been doing my Portfolio the whole time and finally completed after a few 4am mornings hahah!  Therefore over the next few blogs i will being doing them on one of 3 things

1. Influences
2. Persistence
3. Irony

However I must first state that i have had a busy week, I am very tired and (am yawning as I type) so just bare with me over the next few days.

Influences

I have touched on this before and character as well… but it is coming a more common thing in which I notice is an issue and problem to the everyday life of a modern teenager. I mean don't get me wrong we have our influences… its more who or what they are. I can recommend having influences in your life which are going to help you move forward in all that you do – that being your:

Faith: Obviously I write in respect to anyone who reads this, however I am a Christian so when i talk of FAITH i am referring to having that relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Now in terms of an influence, God can be, but we need someone who is walking the walk, talking the talk, walking the talk and talking the walk!  Having a peer or someone close to you who is a friend and experiences your everyday life (and is a Christian) will help you grow as for teenagers usually we look to older people for a Christian influence.

Life: Life is full of many interesting people, celebrities, heroes and and stereotype society trends. When it comes to picking your influences for life you don't want someone who is going to be recommending you party hard and ask questions later, but rather someone who has responsibility in their life and has a thorough understanding of what is “smart” and what is “stupid” in life. In other words… knows what will get you moving forward in life. Stop relying on the MEDIA on all those shows, and what the world portrays as right and wrong.

Career and Education: The best influence for this is someone who has had the experience in working with what you want to do. Someone who is a Christian will increase the bonuses of finding the right career and will help identify the priorities in your life. What career is best for you in terms of your own vision and dreams in God.

These may seem a bit brief, but as I said I am very tired and I am off to bed now!

VERSE:

I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. – Psalm 138:2

True Identity

Its a common trend today that society lives multiple identities in the different environments and locations we company. For instance the common trends of teenage mind is “be who you want how you want at school” but “be who you need to be at home.”

Its rather sad that people regardless of who they are (Christian or Not) that they have to live different lives, just to be noticed. The ironic thing is if you are yourself, you will still be noticed – its just a matter of perception.

Its said that if we were to strip away everything we have, take away all our privileges and all that we own.. all we would have left is our character. The thing is about character is without all those material possessions and bounds over our lives, it will be our character which defines who we really are.

I guess we could call it a new level of integrity. Integrity is the act of doing right and having a moral soundness without having to be commended.
Character should be the same… regardless of where or how you look your character should be shown always. It will define who you are.

Youth these days have this idea that everything will be ok if we sugar coat it, if we keep it covered, if we follow the crowd. But the reality is your just living in self denial… and what will that do.. break you down, build up anger and release a rage which shall result in a consequence or two.

If you were to be yourself, do the right thing and follow your The Lord, all you have to lose is the people who mistreat you. People will love you for who are… not what you show. Cos if you show them something they want to see, when they do see your true self,  they will more likely disown you.

So the moral of the story is…

1. Yes life is tough – but we are all doing it
2. Stop living your life denying who you are and what you believe
3. Find your integrity and independence in God and live life the right way

A Day and Another

Today was rather long… as i spent majority of it collaborating with Uni mates working on our never so ending pile of  assignments. I then had my usual run around with drum lessons and errands and of course cant forget to mention my coffee date with Little Lion followed by a family dinner.

After a few  chats and entertainment with the family plus a stand still arm wrestle with my bro I was back to doing assignments. Had some awesome in jokes and chats with the boys though.

For the record my brother made a statement that in order to pass a subject you may be failing you need to trick your mind that you like it. His analogy for this was (if any of you know the place A Maze'N Things in Phillip Island) that Here the weird and wonderful place is a place where you need to trick your mind into believing these allusions. However if i am correct these allusions are tricking us, not us tricking our minds.

Anywho…

Home Run

Today was a celebration to some sort, as it was the final OOP lecture! However this is also a bad thing as, it means we have less time to do the portfolio and get ready for the EXAM…

Today was also the start of a 2 week study craze. My first exam being on the 13th November (yes a Saturday), means i must put my head down and study home!!

On another note i walked/jogged 3km today after Uni, which is hopefully becoming a new routine. I wish to get more active on my drums again to help keep my adrenaline pumping over the next few weeks.

So looks like i have decided my subjects for Semester 1 next year:

- Business Information Systems Analysis
- Web Development [Introduction]
- Business Data Communications & Networks
- Systems Acquisition And Implementation Management
- New Venture Development

Any question about them please ask!!!
