To Progress or to Move?

Do not confuse motion and progress. A rocking horse keeps moving but does not make any progress
. - Alfred Montapert

There’s a saying that goes “to move forward you must progress, but to progress you must move forward” and in most cases we do. But through life – everyone's life, we all experience a little something called hardship. That's right nothing comes easy in this world, in one way or another some work is involved, its more that fact on how much we measure this work.

In terms of a hardship this will vary from person to person, some will encounter more than others, while some may suffer for an extensive period of time. Regardless of the time or amount, this is a common factor to all our lives. When this ‘hardship’ occurs we usually have some sense of support whether it is a family member a friend or simply that person who has concern for you. Their most common responses are: let go, move on, it will be ok, just give it time, time will tell, you are strong, one step at a time…

These are all true in the sense they are meant, yet in order to progress from this hardship it may just depend on the motion in which you are taking. You can rock that horse forever yet it will never achieve a distance, you can try to progress but without a real horse it would be impossible.

What we tend to do is position ourselves on this horse – unknowingly, and we tend to ponder, think and conceive thought about our situation, going over and over the situation in a sense to overcome it, yet all we do is seem to rock that horse, run in circles and cause ourselves to be only more rundown by focusing on the problem, rather then taking the necessary steps to move on, to let go, to make it be ok!

What those steps are is a question i cannot answer – depending on your hardship or situation, your steps will vary.

But what my point is, you can choose to rock your horse and think your moving forward or you can move forward and choose to take the steps (you will know where to start) in order to begin moving forward and leaving this hardship behind!

To move forward you must progress, but to progress you must move forward.Chris Furlong

“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go, – 1 Kings 2:2-3
